Hello
With many different techniques to use and thoughts on the pros and cons for each it makes for some very good discussion and debate.
Roof removal or just plain old internal space creation, a common theme we see now is to remove internal fixtures and longboard the casualty out the rear of a vehicle with no roof removal being carried out.
Quick fixes, poor manual handling, easier option or effective solution, minimal work time, casualty centred rescue with minimal tool work? who has the answer? as always the situation will dictate that we do but i have often come across the easier option but not necessarily the best option for the casualty.
Do we find we are more likely to take the easier option? another point could be what is the easier option, how mant times have we gone for a specific technique only to find we are still working away at it some time later in the rescue when in fact we could have changed our plan for a better option with a speedier resolve.
The only realistic way to answer this is to train not only within our fire service but with a multi service approach to training and pre-incident preparation with a multi agency approach. With the ultimate outcome the SHARING of knowledge and experience.
